ABB Poster Award

During the poster session, hosted by Energy Dialogue 2014 on 20 November, PhD students from KTH had an opportunity to present their research and compete for the award sponsored by ABB. The first prize of 30 000 SEK went to four students from Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology, for their poster “Biofuels and Energy from Olive Olive Oil Residues”

Poster Session and Lunch

Energy Dialogue 2014 started with the poster session where 44 posters prepared by KTH PhD students compete for the ABB sponsored first prize of 30 000 SEK. Two second best posters received a conference grant of 10 000 SEK from KTH Energy Platform.

The winners were selected by a jury based on votes by those being registered as participants at the Energy Dialogue. The jury consisted of Prof. Per Alvfors, Division of Energy Processes, Josefin Wangel, Department of Sustainable Development, Environmental Science and Engineering,  Susanna Baltscheffsky, Editor in Chief of Ny Teknik and Magnus Backman,Group Manager Electrical Apparatus and Diagnostics, ABB AB Corporate Research.

The most communicative posters were selected based on two criteria: communication qualities and orientation for a broad audience without special knowledge in the research field.

One of the 2nd prizes, sponsored by KTH Energy Platform, was awarded to the poster “What is seasonal energy storage” by Arefeh Hesaraki, at the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering, at the School of Architecture and the Built Environment.

The jury’s motivation to award this work was: “With an eye-catching layout, with a compelling selection and combination of colour and shape, this poster provides a crash-course to thermal energy storage. The poster goes straight to the point, without excessive information.

Another 2nd prize was received by Jose Castro Flores, at the Department of Energy Technology, at the School of Industrial Technology and Management for the poster “Sustainable Thermal Energy Services for the Built Environment”

With a red and blue thread as the central part of the design, this poster guides the reader through the challenges of district heating in Sweden and Europe. A clear layout and a combination of figures and symbols helps explaining every step of this journey.”

The 1st prize of 30 000 SEK, sponsored by ABB, went to the poster “Biofuels and energy from olive oil industry waste” by Javier Barrientos, Fatima Pardo, Magali Boutonnet and Sven Järås, at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology, at the School of Chemical Science and Engineering. Jury members motivated their choice as follow: “With a very stringent, light and modern layout and graphical design, this poster provides an easily accessible introduction to the potential of using biological waste from the olive industry to produce biofuel.”
