The international RAE identified a number of strategic and structural strengths at the university level at KTH; in addition it also identified weaknesses.
Summary
Following the recommendations of the Experts, it will be proposed that the future research strategy of KTH:
- focus resources on those areas that produce research at the highest international levels
- consolidate research efforts in key areas of strength such as Materials Sciences, Energy and Environmental Technology, Information and Communication Technologies, Transport and Technology for Medicine and Health
- reform the internal research allocation system to support academic excellence as well as societal relevance and business outreach
- focus future staff recruitments on young researchers who can proceed towards higher academic positions through a clear career track, supported by stable basic funding
- improve the international visibility of KTH and strengthen the KTH brand through communicating KTH’s research strengths
