Exhibition: The Role of Nuclear Energy in Decarbonising Our Society
Nuclear Energy plays a central role in Europe’s electricity production and is a fossil-free alternative source of electricity and heat for decarbonising our energy system. KTH has a special connection to the Swedish nuclear history since the first reactor, R1, was built on campus. This will be showcased in a new exhibition at the KTH Library.

The exhibition is organised by the KTH Library in collaboration with the KTH Strategic Initiative NEXUS. NEXUS is an initiative where researchers explore the use of nuclear energy to decarbonise society and industry. Of particular interest is the heavy industry that requires substantial amounts of electricity and heat. Today, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) can open new avenues for using nuclear energy, but much research on this topic is needed.
In this exhibition, you will learn more about nuclear reactors, SMRs, the challenges to be solved, and the history of KTH in the field. Explore the journey from nuclear fuel to electricity or heat through innovative reactors and nuclear safety - and discover how it can shape the future!
Opening and other events
The exhibition opens on 15 April and will be open until 5 June. During the exhibition period, the KTH Library and NEXUS arranges several seminars related to safe future nuclear energy. Read more about the seminars
