Doctoral students at KTH are employed and earn a monthly salary. Doctoral student positions may also be offered in partnership with industry actors or scholarship cooperations.

As a doctoral student, you will have a natural platform for collaboration with other researchers and the freedom to develop your research independently. You will take courses within a doctoral programme and devote yourself to an independent research project. You belong to a research team and will conduct your project under the supervision of experienced researchers. Many research teams work internationally which may offer the opportunity of studies abroad.
Our doctoral programmes comprises four years of full-time studies (240 credits) leading to a doctoral degree (PhD).
At the School of Architecture and the Built Environment, our doctoral studies are offered within nine doctoral programmes:

- Civil and architectural engineering
- Energy and Environmental Systems*
- Geodesy and geoinformatics
- Studies in the humanities and social sciences of technology, science and environment
- Land and water resources engineering
- Planning and decision analysis
- The built environment and society: management, economics and law
- Transport science
* Please note: The doctoral programme Energy and Environmental Systems belongs to the School of Industrial Engineering and Management. Only the subject Industrial Ecology belongs to the School of Architecture and the Built Environment.
