BusMEZZO
Public transport systems are becoming increasingly complex with the incorporation of various modes, services, information and communication technologies and transit operation strategies. As a result, there is a growing need for a dynamic transit analysis and evaluation tool that represents time-tables, operation strategies, real-time information, passenger adaptive choices and traffic dynamics at the network-wide level. The developed transit model BusMezzo is implemented in a mesoscopic traffic simulation model, Mezzo, to enable a dynamic perspective when comparing various scenarios and representing complex interactions between system components. The dynamic model is designed to be a useful tool for planning, operations and evaluation of real-world transit networks, in particular in the context of Advanced Public Transport Systems (APTS).
The project is made up of two stages:
- DYMOBUS I (2007-2009) The development and implementation of a transit simulation model that represent transit entities within the mixed-traffic framework. The project includes a demonstration and a validation study.
- DYMOBUS II (2009-2011) The development of a transit passenger choice-set generation and path choice model. The model is estimated based on a survey and implemented within the simulation model. The model has been applied on various case studies in order to demonstrate its capabilities and evaluate operation strategies.
DYMOBUS I and II resulted in a PhD thesis
"Dynamic Modelling of Transit Operations and Passenger Decisions"
by Oded Cats, who obtained a joint PhD degree from KTH and Technion Israel Institute of Technology.
