Climate adaptation

Research for climate adaptation is important in order to adapt society to the current climate change. It can be research about how to adapt roads and buildings to changes in precipitation, increased temperatures or storm events.

Today's societies are adapted to the climate we have experienced during the last centuries. However, climate change will alter the weather situations and put new demand on buildings and infrastructure. As a technical university, KTH conducts research in many areas that are relevant for climate adaptation. The page is under contruction.

What is climate adaptation?

Adaptation refers to adjustments in ecological, social, or economic systems in response to actual or expected climatic stimuli and their effects or impacts. It refers to changes in processes, practices, and structures to moderate potential damages or to benefit from opportunities associated with climate change. In simple terms, countries and communities need to develop adaptation solution and implement action to respond to the impacts of climate change that are already happening, as well as prepare for future impacts.
