Teaching a computer to predict wastewater temperature
In a publication in the journal Sustainability, released in August 2020, the KTH researchers Farzin Golzar, David Nilsson and Viktoria Martin shows that it is possible to accurately predict the inflow temperature at the wastewater treatment plan based on flow data and ambient temperature. This reduces the need for advanced distributed network and heat transport modelling. Moreover, it can be used to evaluate the system effect from an increasing number of on-property technology solutions such as wastewater heat recovery. Findings include, among other, that during winter season, the inflow of stormwater and infiltratation has the largest effect on temperature, while during summer, the ambient temperature and building temperature is more influential.
