Intended learning outcomes
After finishing the course the student should
- have further developed his or her ability to constructively criticize philosophical research papers and to propose improvements.
- have a good knowledge of what is required of a philosophical paper to make it publishable in international refereed journal.
- be able to point out what needs to be improved in drafts of such papers to make them publishable.
- be able to apply several of the major methods used in philosophical research, such as conceptual analysis, precise definitions, linguistic analysis, textual interpretation, counterexamples, argument analysis, and formalization.

Literature
Reading material will be distributed throughout the course. S. O. Hansson, Verktygslära för filosofer (latest edition) will be used as a handbook during the course.
Examination and completion
If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.

- SEM1 - Seminar, 7.5 credits, grading scale: P, F
Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.
The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.
Other requirements for final grade
The student's presence should correspond to at least 75 % of the seminars given during two academic years. The student should make at least four presentations of her or his own papers. Furthermore, the student should be well-prepared at the seminars and contribute to the seminars with comments on the papers presented.

- In an oral assessment, every student shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
