The Higher Seminar in Architecture Series is designed to enhance the skills of doctoral students enrolled at the School of Architecture while also providing a safe, critical, and open environment for all staff at the school to discuss ongoing research work. The seminar series aims to empower students in presenting, analysing, and discussing academic papers and other research material.
Additionally, the seminars provide a platform for Post-Docs, senior researchers, teaching staff and occasional guest presenters from outside the School of Architecture to share their work, ideas, theories, and methodologies, encompassing various research areas represented within the school and related fields.
There are approximately ten seminars per semester, held throughout the academic year, with sessions in both the autumn and spring semesters. Each seminar focuses on presentations of ongoing research by doctoral students, senior researchers and guests. These presentations may include working papers, conference contributions, design studies, book launches, etc.
Doctoral students are encouraged to read the material before the seminars and prepare comments for each presentation, promoting open and constructive discussions among the participants. Furthermore, the seminars will occasionally feature esteemed senior researchers and invited scholars who will share their insights in their research fields.
To foster the development of research methods, the seminar format may occasionally incorporate alternative activities and initiatives such as workshops, collaborative experiments, or site visits. These opportunities will allow participants to engage in hands-on experiences and expand their practical understanding.
We invite you to join us in this stimulating seminar series, where researchers, teachers and practitioners of Architecture can cultivate their research skills, collaborate across disciplines, and engage with esteemed senior researchers and occasional guest presenters from outside the school.
