What appropriate roles are there for values in scientific research?
According to a prominent view, researchers’ social, ethical, and political values should only play a very restricted role in scientific research. For example, such values should not influence the justification of scientific claims as that could jeopardise the integrity and objectivity of research. In this talk, we probe into this position. After mapping different ways values can influence research, we discuss whether they should or should not play such an influence.
