2022-05-06 - Stefan Stenbom SPOTLIGHT seminar
This seminar features Stefan Stenbom, recently employed as an Associate Professor in Learning in Engineering Sciences at the Division of Digital Learning.
His involvement at KTH dates back to 2002, when he was a student, and 2007, when he became an employee at the KTH Learning Lab. Stefan's experience includes working as a project manager for digital learning R&D projects, as a director of studies, and as an object owner for e-learning. He also specializes in the theory of Community of Inquiry and the analysis of online and blended learning environments. The research contexts include K-12, Higher Education, and research embedded in KTH's digital transformation.
From March 2020 to July 2021, the KTH president appointed Stefan as the operational leader of KTH's emergency digitalization of education in the Covid-19 pandemic. A work for which he was awarded the KTH pedagogical prize in 2020 and an honorable mention in the Swedish project academy's project manager of the year award.
Stefan says: During the Spotlight seminar, I will give an overview of digital learning and my work in the field. I will touch upon some of the pandemic work, but my focus will be on the consequences for education that could arise from the pandemic. I will also provide an overview of my current research projects, as expected of a spotlight seminar. From my writings, I selected Stenbom (2018) as the reading. It consists of a systematic review of the survey procedure associated with the Community of Inquiry framework.
Then I have chosen the founding paper of the Community of Inquiry framework. This is not because it is my favorite paper but because it is the paper that has affected my research orientation the most. The Community of Inquiry framework was introduced nearly a quarter of a century ago by Garrison, Anderson, and Archer (2000) to analyze the process of learning where students construct their knowledge individually and in collaboration with others in an online learning environment.
