4.   Assessing project work and solutions and evaluating the course

In this chapter, there is a focus on the outcomes of the project, on how to communicate the outcomes and on the assessment of project work and solutions. There is also some information on Intellectual Property issues. We also discuss the evaluation of the course.

Even if we like to believe that every student is motivated by some inner force to study every course in the degree program, the truth is not that idealistic. How the students are assessed, both formative and summative, during the courses affect how much effort they put in and how much (and what) they learn. Choosing assessment activities that are meaningful and worthwhile can be the key to motivation⁴.
