What to study?

As a double degree student, you decide the specialisation (master’s programme) according to your background and interests. You have some freedom in shaping your studies, but there are also some requirements that need to be fulfilled to obtain your degree. You are welcome to study at KTH for two years (or more if necessary). However, many double degree students want to pass all the requirements for the degree in 1.5 years, which is possible if you plan your studies well. Please also check what is required by your home university in terms of the time at KTH. The education programmes At KTH you will belong to one of the five schools at KTH, the School of Engineering Sciences (SCI) and you will be enrolled in one of our education programmes in engineering. Please note that you will not be admitted to a master’s programme, even though you will take most courses from one. Depending on your specialisation you will either belong to the degree programme in Engineering Physics (Swedish: Teknisk fysik), Vehicle Engineering (Farkostteknik) or Engineering Mathematics (Swedish: Teknisk matematik). If you plan on specialising in Aerospace, Engineering Mechanics, Sustainable Energy, Vehicle or Naval you will be registered as a Vehicle Engineering student. ¶

If you specialise in Physics, Math or Nuclear you will be registered as an Engineering Physics student and if you specialize in Math you belong to Engineering Mathematics.

Minimum requirements in credit units for the double degree:

* Technical/science courses – 60 credits of technical courses (majority from your specialsation), including the online course in Ethics and Sustainability II2210 and Theory and Methodology course (if you have studied similar courses at your home universities or if similar content is part of other courses at KTH, please speak to your programme director)
* Minimum 90 credits at KTH ( 60+30 degree project) (max one extra course of about 7,5 credits)
* Final Degree Project – 30 credits
* Swedish language courses – 4 levels (optional)
You are not allowed to have courses with too much overlap in your degree. E.g. you cannot take II2202 and II2210 or take a very similar course at KTH that you already studied at your home university. You will only be able to take one extra course (a maximum of about 127.5 credits) and only completed courses can be included in your diploma.

Please note that from the autumn 2022, the Swedish language courses will be optional.

Please note, some universities follow another study plan (TUM Physics and Mathematics and Darmstadt). Students who will study the specialisation Sustainable Energy need to take the course MJ2510 Methods of research in sustainable energy 7.5 credits.

Darmstadt

* 60 technical credits at advanced level
* 30 credits at master’s level at Darmstadt (will later be transferred to KTH)
* 30 credits degree project (supervisors at both universities, degree project 30 credits examined at KTH)
TUM – Physics

* 30 credits of technical courses
* 30 credits project course
* Final degree project 30 credits
TUM – Mathematics

* 60 technical credits at advanced level
* 30 credits of master level courses (TUM)
* Degree project 30 credits (examiner and supervisor at KTH)
TUM – Mechanics

Regular study path 60 credits+30 degree project or:

* 60 technical credits at advanced level
* 30 credits of master level courses (TUM)
* Degree project 30 credits (examiner and supervisor at KTH)
