Literature

The course closely follows textbook ""University Physics with Modern Physics"" by Young and Freedman (chapters 37-44, 13th edition). The book is available as e-text. The direct KTHB link is here and here. Many (if not all) universities/institutes/schools offer free access to this e-text (at MyiLibrary; verified to work at SU). Lecture outlines, chapter summaries, practice problems and solutions are available within the online examination system (e-physics.org). Those without access via own school willcan, after enrollment and Ladok registration, get free access to the Y-F e-text via KTHB.

Contents (YF37-44 + NP) PART I:
* Special relativity
* Quantum light: photons
* Particle-waves
Learning goals:

Relativity Photons Particle waves

Part II
* Quantum Mechanics
* Atomic structure
* Molecules and condensed matter
Learning goals:

Chapter 40 Chapter 41 Chapter 42

Part III

Total 9 chapters examined via 9 tests online
* Each test is 10 points, blocked into three Parts I,II,III (TEN1,2,3 in LADOK)
* Each Part contains 3 tests; 3 x 10 points = 30 points maximum; A-F scale is in 10% increments: 30-27p=A; 27-24p=B; 24-21p=C; 21-18p=D; 18-15p=E
* Final grade scale (TEN1+TEN2+TEN3): 90-81p=A; 81-72p=B; 72-63p=C; 63-54p=D; 54-45p=E.
Other books and links A variety of other books on Modern Physics can be suitable as course material, even though the course layout and examination closely follow the Y-F book.
