Development of telecom markets Regulation and liberalization. We will during the seminar go through some basic concepts about the telecom market, market structure and discuss market development. Moreover, the migration to all IP networks have a fundamental impact given that the transmission and application layer could be separated. We also go through some concepts around network sharing. 11-12: Guest lecture Martin Kristensson, Nokia: Wireless solutions and operator strategies

In the seminar we discuss the design principles for current and future wireless access systems, with particular focus on how to continue to scale up the capacity. The target is 1000-times more capacity by 2020 - at the same cost as today. We investigate the fundamental relationships between power/energy,  spectrum and infrastructure cost and how the design principles look like that reach the capacity target can be met within the resource limits.  We identify the "divided world"  with wide-area mobile access on one hand, ruled by conventional wisdom derived from cellular systems, and the very dense high-capacity short-range world, that will carry the vast majority of the traffic, but is abiding to very different design rules.

Lecture slides

The lecture consist of two parts. The first part is based on a financial toolbox that could be used for financial analysis. The toolbox consists of ten concepts that faciliates a basic analysis of an operator's business. The key concepts are presented in the presentation, and please go though the concepts ahead of the lecture. The second part of the lecture focus on investments and risk, where we will discuss systematic risk and compare that to unsystematic risk.

Guest lecture by Greger Blennerud from Ericsson;“Growth Codes for mobile operators – How Frontrunners Monetize Data”

Greger Blennerud has the global marketing responsibility for the area Mobile Broadband within Ericsson. He has been engaged in Business Development activities within the area of Mobile Broadband since 2007. Greger is heavily involved in the Ericsson studies on how capex investments can improve performance and financial returns.
