Title: Modular Multilevel Converters with Integrated Split Battery Energy Storage

Speaker: Dr. Michail Vasiladiotis, École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland

This presentation is concentrated on three principal axes around Modular Multilevel Conversion. In a first step, the impact of grid asymmetries on the operation and capacitive energy storage design of an MMC is treated. In a second step, the integration of BESS elements into the submodules of MMC-based topologies is studied, along with the development of associated generalized control algorithms. Finally, an application example case driven from large scale Ultra-Fast EV Charging Stations based on the recently proposed Modular Multilevel Power Electronic Transformer (M2PET) is discussed.
