The topic of this lecture is the Smartgrids Use Case methodology and above all there will be an introduction to UML modeling for Smartgrid applications.

Useful reading is chapter 2 of the UML Reference Manual, which you can find here

Today we will be working practically with developing Use Cases focusing on the UML diagrams that give the Use Cases more structure and consistent documentation.

There are quite a few UML Tutorials available on the web. USed in combination with the UML Reference Manual, they can provide some hints on how to work with the Use Cases. See for instance here, for a Class Diagram Tutorial, and here for a Sequence Diagram tutorial.

Similarly, there are quite a few "free" tools to use for drawing UML diagrams, some are very advanced since they allow you to link it to code development, while others are simple, basically being only drawing tools. Microsoft Visio works nicely, if you have access to the Microsoft office suite, otherwise you may try Visiual paradigm's free demo here, or just Google for options.

At this seminar, you will be presenting the Use Cases you have prepared. Therefore please prepare slides with the Diagrams, and come prepared to present (and defend) your design. 

4 groups will be chosen randomly to do their presentations.

10.15 - 11.00 Group 1 presenting & Group 2 opposing

11.15 - 12.00 Group 3 presenting & Group 1 opposing

12.15 - 13.00 Group 2 presenting & Group 3 opposing

13.00 - 14.00 Light lunch for everyone that can stay

During each 45 minute slot for presentations, the time will be divided as follows:

25 minutes - group presentation & demonstration.

10 minutes - opposing group presents their view of the project

10 minutes - open questions from audience.
