About me
My major research interest is to design bioinspired and biomimetic materials with structure, properties and functions that resemble those present in plant based tissue or plant cells. My group primarily focuses on polysaccharide based building blocks and much of the work is centered on the plant's own load bearing molecule; cellulose. The fundamental properties of these (self-) assembled materials are investigated and we exploit the gained knowledge for designing models for the plant cell wall (primary cell wall), but also new types of smart polysaccharide based materials. We develop materials for applications that include; structural colors, barrier materials, biomedical and controlled release applications and stimuli-responsive materials.
