I began my scientific journey with a BSc in Biology, focused on Genetics and Biotechnology, from the Federal University of Amazonas. During this time, I gained hands-on experience in essential molecular biology techniques, including DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, gene reporter assays, and cell viability assays. Working as both a laboratory assistant and undergraduate researcher, I refined my skills in experimental design, gene expression analysis, and laboratory management.
Building on this foundation, I pursued an MSc in Neuroscience and Human Biology at Eötvös Loránd University. There, I received training in cellular immunology and virology, working extensively with cell culture, immunofluorescence assays, ELISA, and neutralization assays to study flaviviral infections. This experience allowed me to develop strong skills in serological and immunological assay development, which laid the groundwork for my subsequent research in viral epidemiology.
I then completed a PhD in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Porto, where my research focused on SARS-CoV-2 airborne transmission. I specialized in air sampling and developed a novel detection tool for respiratory pathogens. Through this work, I gained expertise in advanced molecular techniques, including RT-qPCR, viability PCR, rolling-circle amplification, and air sampling methodologies in diverse healthcare and non-healthcare environments.
Currently, I am a postdoctoral researcher at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, part of the Affinity Proteomics Division within the Department of Protein Science. My research interests have always centered on molecular biology, virology, and public health. My international research background and training in high-throughput molecular techniques have equipped me to contribute significantly to advanced disease surveillance and viral pathogen research.
