TENT Technology-Enhanced Neurosurgical Training
Updated on October 16, 2024 by Mario Romero
Goal: Acquire and transfer procedural knowledge in neurosurgical training.
Principal Investigator: Mario Romero
Co-Investigators:
Methods:
- Motion capture of expert movements using a physical cranial phantom (image above).
- Representation of motions in 4D spaces.
- User training and testing in mixed realities with control for visual, audio, and haptic enhancements.
- Measure learning curves and retention of procedural skills using motion capture.
- Participants include engineering students, medical students, and, in the future, surgical residents.
- Mixed methods. Quantitative: motion capture measures of precision, accuracy, and completion time. Qualitative: cognitive load surveys, usability surveys, and participant observation and semi-structured interviews.
- Future methods include eye tracking and speech analysis.
