Om mig
Maria Cuartero was born in Murcia (Spain). She studied a BSc in Chemistry and MSc in Advanced Chemistry at the University of Murcia (Spain). Maria Cuartero obtained her PhD degree in 2014 and then, she moved to the University of Geneva (Switzerland) for a postdoctoral stage in the group of Prof. Eric Bakker (2014-2017). Since 2018, Maria Cuartero is developing her scientific career at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm (Sweden), first as Marie Curie fellow and now as Assistant Professor and Docent. She is co-author of more than 80 peer-reviewed papers mainly in journals related to Analytical Chemistry and Electrochemistry fields. Maria Cuartero received the prestigious Early Career Analytical Electrochemistry Prize from the International Society of Electrochemistry in 2018.
Maria Cuartero research is mainly focused on the development of new fundamental concepts in electroanalysis, being funded by very prestigious grants such as ERC-Starting Grant (European Research Council) and the Swedish VR-Starting Grant (Vetenskapsrådets). Other research interests comprise environmental water electroanalysis, enzymatic (bio)sensors, wearable sensors for healthcare, spectroelectrochemistry and scanning-electrochemical microscopy. Some of the more recent projects of Maria Cuartero are:
ConquerIons - ERC Starting Grant 2020
‘Conquering a New Paradigm for Addressing Ion Detection in Real Scenarios’
The Smaller the Better for Ion detection. ConquerIons is developing pioneering ion sensing concepts using nanomembranes towards next-generation high-performance nanosensors for a great variety of analytical applications.
VolThinSens - Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship 2018
'Challenging societal needs involving ions detection: New strategies for the development of voltammetry ionsensors based on thin membranes’
Ultrathin membranes are the key element for new ion sensors able to act in real contexts and samples. The project addresses challenging ion analysis cases in pharmaceutical/clinical and environmental domains.
