I am a PhD student working at the Department of Aeronautical and Vehicle Engineering. My PhD is about multifunctional composite structures, specifically structural batteries. The idea is that a material provides energy storage and can carry mechanical loads simultaneously. In future applications, structural batteries can for example replace parasitic structures in cars and airplanes and thus reduce the weight on a systems level and improve energy efficiencies.
