Bio-Flexgen: Highly-efficient and flexible integration of biomass and renewable hydrogen for low-cost combined heat and power generation to the energy system.

BIO-FlexGen is an EU project focusing on R&D to increase the efficiency and flexibility of renewable energy-based combined heat and power (CHP) and production of hydrogen, based on pressurized fludized bed gasification of biomass. The technology will play a key role in energy system integration, and make a significant contribution to the decarbonisation of the energy system.

Our part of the project focuses on catalytic steam reforming of hydrocarbons in the raw product gas at high pressures (10-20 bar) downstream the gasifier. Effects of high pressure on the reforming performance is not very well investigated. The experimental tests are performed on a pilot scale gasifier system where the pressure and the temperature in the reformer is 10-20 bar and 870-920 °C, respectively. Topsoe A/S in Denmark is providing with the catalyst used in the tests.
