Om mig

I am a postdoctoral researcher affiliated with KTH FOOD, based in the department of Industrial Economics and Management (INDEK). Broadly speaking, my research investigates dietary change from a sociological perspective. I am interested in how food practices are established, maintained and changed, with a particular focus on shifts in food consumption: for example, novel foods becoming established, foods travelling to new places, shifting public tastes, or changing notions of what ‘food’ actually is. My research at KTH explores how particular things become classified - practically and culturally - as 'food', using a range of different empirical examples.

Before joining KTH I was based at Wageningen University in the Netherlands, where I taught sociology (Consumption and Healthy Lifestyles group) and conducted research on sustainable food system transitions (Environmental Policy group). My research at Wageningen explored topics such as culturally appropriate food, plant-based meat analogues, and issues around transdisciplinary research. Prior to that I completed my PhD at the University of Sheffield (UK) on public acceptance of insects as food in the Netherlands, during which I also undertook historical research on the establishment of sushi in the US.
