Jim Dowling
About me
Jim is a distributed systems researcher and his research interests are in the area of large-scale distributed computer systems. His research has concerned improving fundamental properties of software systems, including reliability, availability, persistence, security, scalability and performance. He has built middleware platforms, peer-to-peer systems, a next generation Hadoop Distributed filesystems, and a next generation cluster scheduler for Hadoop and some of his work has been inspired by mechanisms from complex adaptive systems and self-organizing systems. The research challenges that inspire him are how to provide more dependable, higher performance, more secure, more scalable, lower-cost and more self-managing systems.
