Contiki80211: A 802.11 radio link-layer for resource constrained embedded systems

We believe that Internet of Things applications would benefit from 802.11 connectivity, as long as communication over 802.11 can be optimized for energy-efficiency. Contiki80211 is a combined HW and SW project that enables low-power, 802.11 communication for energy constrained embedded platforms. As the name suggests, the 802.11 software implementation is integrated into Contiki OS, the most popular operating system for resource-constrained embedded systems. The implementation was evaluated on our Contiki80211 prototype, consisting of an Arduino Due (ARM Cortext M3-based) and a AR9170-based Wi-Fi dongle with open-source firmware.
