Having studied materials science, I have always been intrigued with biological materials as they often exhibit a rather complex profile of properties despite the relatively small spectrum of chemical elements that they are made of. My current research focuses on the characterization of water transport phenomena in lignocellulosic systems employing state-of-the-art techniques such as environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), neutron scattering as well as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
