About me
Prof. Andrew Martin is a researcher and teacher in energy technology with three decades of experience. Topics of interest include biomass, membrane distillation, polygeneration, and solar energy -- all of which play critical roles in sustainable development. These topics feature in a wide range of applied research projects in various contexts: from large-scale cogeneration to decentralized renewables-based polygeneration in rural locations; and for water purification and industrial wastewater treatment through waste heat-driven membrane distillation. Prof. Martin uses experimental studies, pilot plant trials, and simulations (component and thermodynamic systems analyses) to achieve research findings of relevance to industry and society.
In 2022 he was appointed Head of Faculty Renewal at the School of Industrial Engineering and Management (ITM). Former leadership positions include head of division (2015-2022), director of studies (2012-2015), and director of the Sustainable Energy Engineering MSc Program (2002-2013). He is coordinator of H2020 BRISK2 and has led or participated in several national and international research projects. Over 15 PhD students have graduated under his supervision.
