Abstract
A group is said to be of type F_n if it admits a classifying space with compact n-skeleton. This is a topological generalization of the algebraic properties of being finitely generated (type F_1) and finitely presented (type F_2). In this talk, we'll discuss a procedure to build simple groups of type F_{n-1} but not F_n for each n. This is based on a joint work with Stefan Witzel and Matt Zaremsky.
