Abstract
We shall give an overview of the study of various properties related to \(L^p\)-norms of convolutions, where \(p\) is at least \(2\), focusing especially on questions of smoothness and trigonometric approximation. Rather than being an isolated topic, such a study has lots of interesting applications in number theory and combinatorics, as uncovered in various ways by people including Bogolyubov, Bohr, Roth and Bourgain, and we plan to sketch out some of these links. We shall aim for the discussion to be fairly self-contained, presupposing little background in the area.
