Abstract: In this first talk of the study group I will introduce Persistent Homology, a basic idea from Topological Data Analysis (TDA) and motivate the need for interdisciplinary research involving TDA, Statistics and Machine Learning. The talk will then address stability of Persistent Homology. I will explain the so called ‘noise systems’, show how they determine new metrics on persistence modules and allow to obtain stable invariants.
