Job description

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Royal Institute of Technology is seeking a postdoctoral researcher who will play a key role in promoting digitalization and sustainable practices within the metallurgical process industry. Responsibilities include collaborating with industry partners to develop and implement advanced digital technologies that enhance process efficiency and material recycling. The focus will be on optimizing recycling processes through the integration of digital tools, data analytics, and simulation techniques to improve decision-making and operational performance. This initiative will involve both theoretical and applied research, including the design and evaluation of process improvements and the adoption of sustainable technologies in real-world settings.

You will be required to work in close collaboration with other researchers from industry and research institutes in Europe. Regardless, you should not be afraid of traveling around Europe and staying in other European countries, since the majority of the work will be carried out in close collaboration with our industrial partners.

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made. 
  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, Physics, Sustainable Energy Engineering, or a relevant field is required.

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • It's commendable if you have research expertise
  • Skillful oral and written communication in English
  • Scientific article, proposal and report writing experience
  • Ability to independently manage sub-projects, including effective collaboration with team members
  • Teaching and supervision assistance abilities
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.

About the employment

The position offered is for, at the most, two years.

A position as a postdoctoral fellow is a time-limited qualified appointment focusing mainly on research, intended as a first career step after a dissertation.
