Research Engineers

School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH

Job description

The group uses a multidisciplinary approach that combines biology, physics and chemistry to advance our understanding of nanoscale structure and dynamics in biological processes. We aim to use this information to accelerate the development of the next generation of engineered nanomedicines.

The group has three key focus areas (A) nanoscale engineering (B) improved disease understanding and (C) performance validation. By combining large datasets with single particle analysis, we use this information to improve our understanding of how disease impacts the performance of nanomedicines to attempt to engineer improved delivery technologies on the nanoscale.

Our long-term goal is to use these multidisciplinary datasets to enable the rational design of nanomedicines for specific diseases and patients.

The advertised position(s) is/are focused on establishing workflows for nanoparticle formulation, nanoparticle characterization, nanoparticle performance (via in vitro assays) and cellular processing protocols. These tools will be used for proof-of-concept research projects related to engineering nanomedicines.

This includes (but is not limited to):

Establishing standard procedures for:
-Nanoparticle formulation and characterization
-In vitro cell culture assays
-Separation techniques

Data collection for proof-of-concept projects related to:
-Nanoparticle formulations methods
-Structure – function relationships
-Lipidomics / Proteomics

What we offer

  • A position at a leading technical university that generates knowledge and skills for a sustainable future.
  • Engaged and ambitious colleagues along with a creative, international and dynamic working environment
  • Work in Stockholm, in close proximity to nature
  • Help to relocate and get settled in Sweden and at KTH.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A graduate degree or an advanced level (higher education) in the research subject or equivalent competence.
  • Cell culture experience
  • Contributing to development of pharmaceutical products / biomarker / drug candidate identification
  • Ability to work collaboratively. We are a multidisciplinary team with collaborations across infrastructure facilities and within industry and academia so it is essential that you are comfortable with collaboration and enjoy working collaboratively.
  • Ability to think critically and apply this to research. A key research focus for us is understanding how different biological processes work and linking different datasets. This requires you to think critically about the results you have obtained and continue to ask questions about what we still need to address.
  • Ability to work independently. Research is constantly evolving and therefore you will be required to take initiative for certain aspects of the role.

Preferred qualifications

  • Masters degree in related subject (either awarded or soon to be awarded)
  • Experience in several laboratory settings e.g. different disciplines, industrial / academic
  • Experience working with lipid systems
  • Experience processing ‘big’ datasets
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.
