Roberto Sorrentino is Full Professor of Electromagnetic Fields at the University of Perugia, Italy.

He was previously with La Sapienza University of Rome (1974-1986) and with the University of Rome Tor Vergata (1986-1990). In 1983 and 1986 he was appointed as a Research Fellow at the University of Texas at Austin, Austin, USA.

His research activities have been concerned with numerical methods and CAD techniques for passive microwave structures and with the analysis and design of microwave and millimeter-wave circuits and antennas. He is the author or co-author of more than 100 technical papers in international journals, 200 refereed conference papers and three books. He has been the co-ordinator of several Italian and international projects (ESA, FP6, FP7) in the areas of Microwave and Milimeterwave circuits and RF-MEMS technology. He has been the scientific coordinator of the Network of Excellence AMICOM (Advanced MEMS For RF and Millimeter Wave Communications) funded by the EC within the FP6. Roberto Sorrentino served the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) as Vice Chair (1993-1996) then Chair (1996-1999) of the Commission D (Electronics and Photonics). Since 2007 he is the President of the Italian Delegation of URSI.

In 1990 he has become a Fellow of the IEEE “for contribution to the modelling of planar and quasi-planar microwave and millimeter-wave circuits”. Roberto Sorrentino is recipient of the MTT-S Meritorious Service Award (1993), the IEEE Third Millennium Medal (2000), Distinguished Educator Award from IEEE MTT-S (2004). He was Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Microwave and Guided Wave Letters (1995 -1998) and the President of the European Microwave Association (1998-2009).

In 2007 together with R. Vincenti Gatti, L. Marcaccioli, P. Farinelli and Fondazione Bruno Kessler he founded RF Microtech s.r.l, of which he was the President until 2009. Since 2010 he is honorary President of the startup company RF Microtech.
