Antonio J. Capezza (Postdoc)
Processing of functional absorbents from waste biomass and cellulose nanofibers
Dr Capezza earned his double PhD degree in 2020 from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and the Swedish University of Agricultural Scinence (SLU). The topic of the PhD work was Superabsorbents from Agricultural Products. Previous to the doctoral studies he had developed an interest in polymeric materials when working with Conductive Natural Rubber Nanocomposites in KTH (2014-2015). Capezza's doctoral studies on protein superabsorbents were patented in cooperation with Essity AB in 2020. Capezza worked in 2019 as Project Coordinator and main applicant in the Vinnova Challenge Driven Innovation program " Sustainable Superabsorbents ". The project aimed for pilot-scaling the results published in his PhD thesis and resulted in a established constellation of 12 industrial/academic partners interested in exploring the materials for future applications.
Capezza is conducting his postdoctoral studies in the topic Extrusion of Superabsorbents for Hygiene Applications as principal investigator in KTH Olssons group ( BoRydins Stiftelsen for Independent Research , Grant F30/19) in the Department of Fibre and Polymer Technology . The focus of his project is to develop large-scale protocols for producing hygiene articles using industrial biomass/waste for raw material valorisation. The research is directed towards producing useful hygiene products from waste (Waste To Products W2P), taking into account circular bioeconomy and sustainability of the products (raw material, processing, end-of-life).

Personal
Born 1992, Caracas, Venezuela
Material Engineer from Venezuela. I am interested in Polymer Science and the development of new materials and applications for polymeric materials. Lately, switched from the synthetic polymeric world to the "green" polymer industry. Trying to address new suitable solutions to actual industrial concerns regarding contamination and carbon footprint of daily care products
Cooperation
Joint-PhD program together with The Swedish University of Agricultural Science (SLU), Alnarp.
