Sarthak comes from India and completed a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from NIT Kurukshetra in 2016. He is an extrovert with a quest to explore advances in new technologies and has an enthusiasm for adventure activities.
Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?
Having been in the industry for three years, I realised the importance of electronics for a mechanical engineer. To spearhead this enthusiasm and contribute in the same[MC1] , I wanted to master my skills in a field in which I could holistically apply the concepts of both Electronics and Mechanical Engineering. Hence, this interest in integrating a brain and a control system [MC2] into the mechanical components bolstered my decision to take Mechatronics as my programme at KTH.
What are the best aspects of your programme?
One of the best aspects of my programme is that it helps to create an all-round engineer. It basically deals with courses that help to developing a product-based mindset in which a person learns about the technicalities of all the systems and can then use them to create a whole system. It promotes system engineering at the core, which involves the technicalities of Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Computer systems in order to make a complete product.
Have you chosen a specialisation track within the programme? If Yes, which track and why?
The programme of Engineering Design has a track called Mechatronics. I have chosen this track in order to become a self-sufficient Mechanical and Electronics engineer.
What are your favourite courses thus far?
My favourite courses are:
- Robust Mechatronics
- Dynamics and Motion Control
- Applied Vehicle Dynamics Control
How do studies at KTH differ from your previous studies?
I would say that KTH is a more practical university than my previous university. Also, I love the industry-academia relationship here, which was lacking at NIT. I also appreciate the energy and proactiveness of some of the professors.
How is student life in Stockholm?
Stockholm is an amazing place for a student. It provides you with a combination of calmness and composure that lets you concentrate on your studies while also giving you the opportunity to take a day or two off in order to engage in multicultural activities. The landscape is beautiful and picturesque with many opportunities for adventure. Stockholm’s efficient and well-established public transport system combined with student discounts makes student life a little easier in what is an expensive city.
How would you describe your time at KTH so far?
My time at KTH has been amazing. It has involved a lot of learning on the courses as well as learning about Swedish culture. I have learnt a lot from Swedish culture and the Swedish personality and perspective on life.
What do you want to do after graduating?
I am planning to work for a technology company and be part of producing exciting products related to control systems and robotics.
What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for their master’s
studies?
KTH is an amazing place to study and Stockholm provides a very good technical environment. However, you should be careful in your selection of programmes. The programmes and the courses should be well aligned with your future goals. As one of of the best colleges in Europe and the best college in Scandinavia, KTH would definitely help you build a bright future.
I would recommend that you apply for a scholarship because this would be a great help, financially. I would also recommend that you plan how you intend to spend your next two years and find as much information as possible about the available courses online and sketch out a rough future before coming here. This would give you a very good start in your selection of courses and would contribute to a bright future.
