KTH moves up in Times Higher Ed ranking
KTH continued its climb in the THE World University Rankings thanks in part to a strong score for its research environment.
KTH was lifted to 95th place among more than 2,000 universities worldwide in the 2025 Times Higher Education World University Ranking , which was released today. The placement is two spots higher than where the university landed in the 2024 ranking.
In the new ranking, KTH places higher than all but two Swedish universities, sharing 95th place with Lund University. Karolinska Institutet is Sweden’s highest ranked institution. KTH is the 19th highest-ranked university in the European Union.
THE measures universities according to 17 performance indicators that gauge performance across five areas: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry and International Outlook.
KTH’s score for Research Environment is one factor contributing to its overall higher ranking. It's score of 58.3 compares favorably with the highest-ranked universities.
Vice President for Research Annika Borgenstam says that while she welcomes the news, KTH’s focus is on striving for improvement. “It’s so nice when KTH receives a good ranking,” she says. “But at the same time, we can’t be driven by rankings but by our mission and values, and to make our university the best it can be."
KTH also scored 97.3 in Industry, achieving a score of 100 in the ‘Patents’ sub-indicator. The lower overall score was due to the decrease in ‘Industry revenue’ (from 95.6 to 94.7).
With a score of 81.4 in Research Quality, KTH stands above 75 percent of the participants. KTH has improved in almost all related sub-indicators.
