Since 2020, the Air Force has been responsible for developing and shaping Swedish space defense. In 2023, the Space Department was established at the Air Staff in Uppsala to carry out this work. The main tasks include developing a space situational awareness and the Swedish Armed Forces' satellites. As an engineer in the Armed Forces, you can serve either in a civilian capacity or as a military engineer.

GKN Aerospace  - develops and manufactures advanced components for aircraft and space rocket engines, as well as provides engine maintenance. They have been involved in European space cooperation since the 1970s and have, among other things, developed advanced welding technologies used in the nozzles of the Ariane 5 rocket. They are responsible for both product development with unique technologies and for serial production of nozzles and turbines for Europe's rocket engines. You can build your career with us thanks to our extensive job opportunities and international workplaces. With us, you can work across the entire product lifecycle: from research and development to design, manufacturing, and sales.

MSB  - The unit for Space Safety and Security at the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency works for strengthened civil preparedness using space – to use space services and systems to increase the capacity to withstand risks facing our society – and from space threats such as space weather. The goal is to strengthen our society’s ability to tackle and handle both known and unforeseeable threats and risks in both normal circumstances, crises and war situations. This is achieved through a coordination of the preventative and operative work in the area and providing support to actors.

While working at the unit for Space Safety and Security you have the opportunity to be part of the strengthening of Swedish overall ability to tackle and handle known and unforeseeable threats and risks through representing Sweden at working groups at EU-level within the European Space Programme and the enabling of access to secure EU-space systems for satellite navigation, Galileo PRS, and satellite communication, Govsatcom. Thereto developing needs- and risks assessments and efforts to support actors within the civil preparedness system.

We regularly organize astronomy camps, star parties, competitions, schoolarships, and much more!

MIST

MIST  - Join and help design and build MIST, the first student satellite at KTH. Each semester a new student team consisting of about 10 students works on the exiting and challenging task it is to build a satellite. The project is lead by the experienced satellite project manager Sven Grahn and ESA astronaut Christer Fuglesang is responsible for the project as director of KTH Space Center.

The work involves many different subjects such as physics, electronics, mechanics, control systems engineering, software development and space technology. The work with MIST can be done as a bachelor thesis, a master thesis or a project course and thus the project attracts students from many different fields of study and stages in their education.
