New strategic cooperation in materials technology
KTH and Alleima AB have entered into a strategic partnership to jointly deepen cooperation in education, research and innovation, as well as in materials and chemical engineering.
Alleima specialises in advanced materials technology and manufactures highly refined stainless steel and various types of alloys as well as solutions for industrial heating. Until two years ago, the company was part of the Sandvik Group and has previously collaborated in a number of areas within the framework of KTH's strategic partnership with Sandvik.
Input on programs
Joint research and development projects and exchanges in the form of industrial doctoral students, study visits and guest lecturers are some examples. Alleima has also provided input on how certain programs can better match the needs of industry and thus the labour market.
“We hope to strengthen our research collaborations even more and perhaps inspire more students to study in programs that are relevant to us and our field,” said Tom Eriksson, Head of Research and Development at i Alleima, in connection with the signing of the collaboration agreement by both parties.
A deeper collaboration in materials science, chemistry and chemical engineering is also on the agenda for that co-operation.
“We are really looking forward to further developing an already very fruitful and for sustainable societal development important collaboration with Alleima through this strategic partnership,” says Anders Söderholm, President of KTH.
The next four years
KTH now has 16 strategic partnerships, with Alleima being the latest addition. The partnerships are with global companies, public sector actors and research institutes of particular importance to KTH's activities. Together with these strategic partners, collaborations in research and education are developed to meet the challenges facing society.
Alleima develops a range of products for various applications and industries, such as seamless stainless steel pipes for the energy, chemical and aerospace industries. The company has 6,500 employees, most of whom work in Sandviken.
The agreement, signed as a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), will be valid for four years.
