Who has received what when it comes to funding? What findings, results and researchers have attracted attention outside KTH? Under the vignette Newsmakers, we provide a selection of the latest news and events at KTH.

Scholarship for studies on steel

Monika Rolinska , a PhD student in materials science, has received a scholarship from the Hans Werthén Foundation for research abroad. Rolinska will study and explain how stainless steels are affected by heat treatment at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, USA. The results will be useful in areas such as the transport sector.

Urban Designer of the Yearwith focus on sustainability

The Association Sveriges Stadsbyggare has named Ann Legeby  Urban Designer of the Year2024 for her long-term work on social sustainability. Legeby, who is a professor of Applied Urban Planning, has as a researcher focused on the social dimension in areas such as segregation, equal living conditions and urban life.

Energy researcher lead the way for green energy

Viktoria Martin , professor of Energy Engineering, has been elected President of the International Solar Energy Society ISES. The organisation, which represents more than 100 countries and was founded in 1954, works to share knowledge and promote international cooperation to support ISES' vision of a world with 100 percent renewable energy for all, used wisely and efficiently.

Awarded for energy storage

Xin Bin has been awarded a scholarship for best master's thesis on circular economy by Ramboli, a global foundation-owned architecture and engineering consultancy. The thesis is a study on how to handle batteries and sustainable energy storage in vehicle industry.

Professor elected to Life Science network

Tuuli Lappalainen , professor of Genomics, has been elected as a member of the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO), a network of more than 2,000 leading life science researchers that aims to support talented researchers, stimulate the exchange of scientific information and help build a European research environment.

Researchers awarded for digital communication

A team of KTH researchers received an award for a scientific publication at the IEEE/CVF international conference in Seattle, USA. The research is about how to develop the interaction between verbal and non-verbal language in digital communication platforms. The researchers, associated with the WASP research programme, are Simon Alexanderson , researcher, Jonas Beskow , professor, Gustav Eje Henter , associate professor, Shivam Mehta and Anna Deichler , both PhD students.
