KTH ranking is up among engineering and technology universities
KTH Royal Institute of Technology’s ranking in engineering and technology continues to rise for the second consecutive year, and subjects at KTH have maintained leading positions, in the QS World University Rankings released last week.
The university’s overall ranking in the subject area of engineering and technology has climbed to 28th in the annual list. And scores for citations and academic reputation have across the board improved or largely maintained their relative levels from the previous year.
Doing so is harder than it sounds, says KTH Deputy President Mikael Östling. “We’ve said it before, but the fact is the competition in the world is stiffening all the time,” he says. “Nevertheless, KTH gained in total scores, in academic reputation and citations, with some minor fluctuations.”
Ranked in the top 50 of the QS World University Rankings by Subject: Architecture/Built Environment (22nd), Electrical & Electronic Engineering (23rd), Materials (27), Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufactural Engineering (26th), Petroleum engineering (21st), Civil & Structural Engineering (44th).
The following KTH subjects were ranked among the top 100: Art & Design, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science & Information Systems, Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, Physics & Astronomy and Statistics & Operational Research
The ranking and scores for material science in particular represent marked improvement—the overall ranking climbed from 38th to 27th and the citations score shot up from 71.7 to 86.
“What’s encouraging is our citations are up, we’re maintaining academic reputation, and it’s interesting that we have six subject fields in the top 50, and a total of 14 in the top 100,” Östling says.
“That is something to be proud of.”
