Georgia Tech professor named KTH Alumnus of Year

Magnus Egerstedt, professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, U.S., has been named 2013 Alumnus of the Year by KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

KTH's 2013 Alumnus of the Year, Georgia Institute of Technology Professor Magnus Egerstedt.

“Magnus Egerstedt is a globally respected authority in his field of research and a distinguished lecturer,” the award citation reads. “The honour of Alumnus of the Year is awarded to Magnus Egerstedt for the inspiring way in which he combines innovative and significant research with his passion to pass knowledge on to new generations of students. In true KTH spirit, he has embraced new technology to reach out to more people. He became the first Swede to give a Massive Online Open Course (MOOC), which attracted more than 40,000 students from all over the world. With his commitment to research and learning, he is a good ambassador for the Royal Institute of Technology and a role model for our alumni, students and our faculty.”

Egerstedt graduated in Engineering Physics, and received his PhD in Applied Mathematics, at KTH. At Georgia Tech, he conducts research in the subjects of control engineering and robotics.
