The project Real-time measurements of additive manufacturing with electron-beam melting was one of eight projects awarded a grant by the Röntgen-Ångström cluster this year. The aim with the project is to construct a sample environment that enables time-resolved investigations of alloys’ behavior while exposed to conditions typical for the 3D-printing technology selected electron beam melting.

Co-applicants are Peter Hedström, professor at the Unit for Structures at MSE, and Ulrich Lienert, adjunct professor at MSE and beam-line scientist at Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY.

The project will be performed in collaboration with the Swedish company Freemelt and the German partners Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht. The sample environment will be made available, and measurements will be performed, at DESY in Germany.

Röntgen-Ångström is a German-Swedish research collaboration in structural biology and materials science. The applications are assessed by an international panel of experts and by two specialized councils within the Swedish Research Council.
