The European Climate and Energy Modelling Forum (ECEMF), led by KTH and supported by the EU, has significantly influenced two key studies published in ‘Nature Energy’ and ‘Nature Climate Change’. These studies solidify ECEMF’s role in shaping critical climate and energy policies for a more equitable and sustainable future

The articles focus on financing energy transitions in developing nations, and the effects of climate change on economic inequality. ECEMF provided crucial modelling that guided global decision-makers on implementing sustainable policies that ensure both environmental goals and social equity.

The study in Nature Energy showcased ECEMF’s analysis of how lowering the cost of capital could speed up the energy transition in emerging markets. By modelling global financial hurdles, ECEMF pinpointed strategic opportunities for encouraging investment in clean energy sources.

Meanwhile, in ‘Nature Climate Change’, ECEMF’s advanced models demonstrated how climate policies can reduce or exacerbate economic inequalities, stressing the need to integrate social equity into climate strategies. The research highlights that climate change could disproportionately affect the poorest communities without targeted policies. ECEMF emphasised balancing environmental and social goals to ensure long-term success.
