WISE announces call for industrial PhD students and postdoctoral researchers
In August 2024, the Wallenberg Initiative Material Science for Sustainability (WISE) will announce its second call for industrial PhD students and postdoctoral researcher positions in materials science for sustainability.
Wallenberg Initiative Material Science for Sustainability (WISE) is Sweden’s largest research programme in material science for a sustainable future. In total, the programme covers SEK 2.7 billion during the period 2022–2033. The research is financed by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW).
WISE aims to create the conditions for a sustainable society, by researching the next generation of ecofriendly materials and manufacturing processes. Therefore, collaborations between industry and academia is of great importance for the WISE programme – for example, in the form of industrial PhDs and postdocs.
In August, WISE will open a call for funding for up to 8 industrial doctoral student positions and 8 industrial postdoctoral researcher positions within material science for sustainability.
Who can apply?
Industries with Research and Development (R&D) operations in Sweden are invited to apply, in collaboration with a WISE university. Each project should include two principal investigators – one industrial and one academic. The industrial investigator and the academic investigator are both co-applicants.
The WISE universities include the six partner universities KTH, Chalmers, Linköping University, Uppsala University, Stockholm University, Lund University and Luleå University of Technology. The call is also open for researchers within the affiliated groups of excellence at Karlstad University, Umeå University and Örebro University.
Thematic areas
This call welcomes joint industry and academic projects that target materials science for sustainability. The projects should address any or several of the WISE thematic areas:
- conversion, storage and distribution of clean energy
- circular materials replacing rare, energy-demanding, and hazardous materials
- mitigation, cleaning and protection of atmosphere, soil, and water
- discovery of materials for novel sustainable technologies
Time schedule
Call opens: 12 August 2024
Call closes: 19 November 2024 at 14:00 CET
