Quantum materials – an overview
Abstract of Anna Delin
In a typical chunk of an average material, there are of the order 10^23 electrons, the wave functions of which are all entangled into one many-body wave function. In some materials, this entanglement leads to remarkably complex quantum states of matter and the emergence of new types of quasiparticles, materials and phenomena, such as for example superconductivity, spin liquids and topological insulators. Such systems are often grouped together in under the heading “Quantum Materials”. In this talk, I will give a brief introduction to and overview of this quickly growing field of research.
