Two PhD students from KTH School of Information and Communication Technology, received Best Student Paper awards at Asia Communications and Photonics Conference (ACP’2014), which was held in Shanghai in November.

The awarded students at Asia Communications and Photonics Conference.

Miguel Iglesias Olmedo, PhD student at the Optics and Photonics unit, supervised by Associate Professor Sergei Popov, received the best student paper award in the track Optical Transmission Systems, Subsystems, and Technologies for his paper “Impact of Carrier Induced Frequency Noise from the Transmitter Laser on 28 and 56 Gbaud DP-QPSK Metro Links”.

– This award is a great incentive to my work and it means that our research is heading into the right direction. We are now more motivated as a team and eager to tackle the next challenge, says Miguel Iglesias Olmedo.

Rui Lin, PhD student at the Optical Networks Laboratory (ONLab), supervised by Assistant Professor Jiajia Chen and Professor Lena Wosinska, received the best student paper award in the track Network Architectures, Management, and Applications for the paper “Palm-Shaped Optical Spectrum Generation for Fiber-Wireless Integrated Communication with Dual-Band Millimeter Wave Capability”

– It feels great to get this award and I appreciate this very much! What is important to me is to meet talented people and that my idea gains identity. It is also a good start for my future studies and research in KTH, says Rui Lin.

The IEEE, OSA and SPIE sponsored conference ACP is the largest and most influential conference in Asia and Pacific Rim for communications and photonics technologies, exhibing break-down achievements in photonics, optical communication and networks. The programme at the conference is divided in six tracks and every year, the conference organizes a best student psysaper competition for each track.
