The 2017 meeting of the Steering Committee of OSeMOSYS took place in Trieste, Italy, hosted by the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), on June 25th. Members of the Steering Committee from KTH, UNDESA, TU Berlin, Politecnico di Milano, BCIT/UVIC and UCL participated. In the morning session, the participants gave presentations and shared ideas on the latest developments and applications of the tool, such as the use and perspectives for the Python version of OSeMOSYS, a newly published block of functionality for cascades of hydro power plants and dams, the testing of OSeMOSYS for short-term analyses and plans for integration with Input-Output models. In the afternoon session the Steering Committee reconvened to discuss the structures, processes and distribution of tasks for the sustainable management of the community, with key reflections on the code versioning, quality control for new developments, sharing of teaching material and communication with the OpTIMUS.community. The event took place at the sides of the CLEWs (Climate, Land, Energy and Water strategies) Summer School organised by UNDESA in collaboration with KTH-dESA, to which trainees from 9 countries across the world took part and where OSeMOSYS was employed as the main modelling tool.
