New application of OSeMOSYS

Designing a Global Energy System Based on 100% Renewables for 2050

A Global Energy System Model (GENeSYS-MOD) was created by researchers at DIW and used to develop a 100% renewable path for the global energy system up to 2050. The model was created through an improved General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS) version of OSeMOSYS. The enhanced version includes features which are essential to study high-decarbonisation scenarios, such as: modal split for transport, improved trading features and improved storage representation.
Furthermore, the study  includes an application of GENeSYS-MOD to analyse decarbonisation scenarios at the global level, splitting the domain into 10 regions. Special focus is put on inter-dependencies between the electricity, transportation and heating sectors.
