SIDA funded program
KTH dESA is gladly supervising twelve undergraduate students at KTH, who are currently conducting field studies in five African countries through a SIDA funded program (MFS). Here are Emelie Johnson and Josefine Axelsson who visit Rwanda for 8 weeks investigating energy sector development issues in the country. Their research strives to provide answer(s) to the following questions:
- What is the role of hydropower in Rwanda’s electrification plans?
- What are the critical elements in land irrigation and how does water availability affect the agricultural output in the country?
- What are the linkages between water use for electricity production (hydropower) and irrigation (agriculture)? Any hot spots and conflict zones?
- How should water be utilized more effectively in the country in order to achieve its targets both in regards with energy and food demand?
- How does climate change impact the energy sector dynamics in the country?
Findings of this work are expected to contribute in the elaboration of their BSc thesis.
